I lost one eyecup (eyeglasses protector? it doesn't seem much like a cup to me ;-) from my DS ... the replacement ($30!) fits more snugly than the original, and the second DS body's is snugger too.

A little rubberband place around the piece and the bottom edge of the eyepiece will keep it from slipping off if it's not snug.

I find that the DS eye cup is a lot snugger that that of the 5n, which I have
lost and now place a rubberband to keep the new one in place.

Fred, you will find, if the DS is anything like the D, that the eyecup
will quickly choose to remove itself.
BTW, congratulations on your move into the modern era. Enjoy!

By the way, the viewfinder is just beautiful to use with mf lenses,

I find that eye relief can be a little hard to come by. I had visions
before the DS arrived of taking off that eyecup, but I find that it

not get in the way at all (i.e., it does not keep me from getting my
eye
close enough to see the full viewfinder).
