I've been reading most of this thread. People tell they are getting large
numbers of pictures out of a battery pack. I get a lot less. Been thinking
about this, trying to figure out why. I shoot mainly RAW, you with near 2000
exposures, do you do the same?

My experience is that the main power consumer is use of LCD, _and_
read/write activity. My theory is that since RAW files takes more time to
write, it most likely consumes more power. Does this make sense?
