Do you mean the SMC Pentax AF35-70/2.8? It didn't have the autofocus
sensor built-in, only the motor. It needed to be mated to the Pentax
ME-F body to autofocus. Pentax have never made a lens with an entire
AF system inside it.
Ah yes, that's what I was thinking of. You're right, the AF was in the
body. It may have been the same with the Nikon I was thinking of. The
Cosina and Tamron may well have been the only ones with the complete AF
system in the lens.
