Now that I think about it, I believe you are probably right. More than likely, it's a trademark infringement of some kind. Unfortunately, news folks occasionally mix these two, but there's no excuse for me to do so too.

they wouldn't be copyright violations. They might be violations of
something, but it's not copyright.
