for that purpose ("if wife asked") you could have used $50, just to make sure
you drive the point across.

i am shooting mostly b&w film now, and processing is next to free, when done in 
the kitchen. when i was working in the City, slides were normally
$6/roll (uncut) in a pro
lab. now i am using a&i mailers, for roughly $7/roll.

amazingly, dealing with raw digital files and developing b&w +
scanning takes comparable
amounts of time. digital is quicker, but not by an order of magnitude (30-40min
development + an hour or so scanning), since i haven't found a good way to do
batch raw raw processing.
