Thanks Anthony. I may layer it as you suggest. I actually worked to
eliminate CA on the new version. I was able to reduce it quite a bit
where the bird meets the sky. That may have exacerbated it on the
branches.

I prefer the smoother sky and the far wing of the new version, but the

prefer the

Also, the new version shows strong chromatic aberration on the sharp
branch,
and blue fringing on the unfocused branches that were hardly
noticeable on
the original.
Perhaps you could layer up the two versions, and selectively erase the
less
desirable aspects.

I haven't been able to process my photo of that Point Pelee Red
Breasted Grosbeak in a way that pleases me completely. The original
was
underexposed by about a stop because I had thought I was going to be
shooting him against leaves rather than open sky. (I should have
locked
in a manual exposure.) Anyway, i've had a tough time pulling detail
out
of the black feathers without causing a lot of noise and general
ugliness. I went back for a second and third attempt. I think the new
one is a bit of an improvement even though there is less detail. Am I
right?
Here's the original, which I posted a couple of days ago:

Here's the new version:

Should I delete the old version, the new version or both?
