I think Sony is better off selling to both Nikon and Pentax (and
others).
By the way they have some interesting things:

Theoretically they could make 60MP APS-C sensors, if they could handle
the data flow from the sensor...

I don't particularly think that matters to Sony, they would want the
name, nothing else. If they wanted the
mount then they could license it. Pentax is good that way. (Hell we
don't even know if the rumors are
even close to true, just ask Donald Rumsfeld's successor as US Sec. of
Defense).

The "not invented here" syndrome won't work with a new DSLR lens
mount.
Look at the problems Olympus has had getting the 4/3 system
established.
I think it's possible even Sony recognizes the problems here. What
*is*
important (to Sony) is something that isn't an open system like 4/3.
Look at lenses are available in 4/3 mount. As Jostein said, legacy
lenses aren't that important to a manufacturer, but look at what's
*currently* available in K mount between Pentax, Sigma, Tokina and
Tamron. (Then figure in oddities like Zenitar.)
