Well that particular photo (with a bright forground and a large dark background area) is the opposite of most (dark forground with large area of bright sky). The matix metering is probably not set up to deal with that combination. In situations like that it is probably best to use manual metering. Now if it is misexposing in the more common situation of a bright sky then there is probably something wrong with the programing.
