I blame the salesman. Why is he showing a camera like the 20D to someone who doesn't understand slr's? If he knew his stuff he would have picked up on the skill level of his customer and told him about the need to use the view finder and used the accuracy of what you see in the viewfinder as a selling point.
I haven't seen Godfrey's post; my prejudices against Canon gear are well known. I think it is either cheap and nasty or overweight and oversized. There is nothing in its present lineup that matches the Pentax line for lightness, small dimensions and quality of feel. I have no prejudices against Canon users; they have quality requirements different to my own. As I explained earlier, this was the second incident I had witnessed during the buying of a DSLR. Both were Canons, which probably says more about the market than anything els.
The salesman was excellent. He immediately pointed out that it was a review screen and not a preview. I hadn't been paying attention up to then but I assume he had had no clue as to the knowledge base of the buyer.
