I need to call again on my computer support team. You guys know who you are -- the ones who held my hand while I installed Windows XP.

Everything is connected and working fine, except for my Nikon LS-2000 scanner. It is an older one that connects by a SCSI card. In Windows 98SE the scanner and its connection worked fine.

In XP, Windows recognizes the SCSI card and says it is working properly. I connected the scanner to it and booted up. Windows reported new hardware (i.e., it detected the scanner), and asked for its software. Here the problems began. Both the current and an older version of Nikon Scan install okay, but cannot detect the scanner. Windows can "see" the scanner and says that it is working okay.

I got the scanner second-hand. It came without the original SCSI card, by Adaptec. I got a SIIG card, which, as I mentioned, worked just fine.

I have contacted technical help at both SIIG and Nikon. SIIG has not yet answered. Nikon answered late today. The first thing Nikon said is that XP does not support SCSI connections. Huh??!! Is this so? Then Nikon said it should work okay anyway, but I need the Adaptec SCSI card and something called "ASPI Layer 4.70." Then it should work.

I am reluctant to shell out the money for a different card unless I can be certain that the combination will work. Does anyone know anything about ASPI Layer 4.70, or have any other thoughts about getting the scanner working? Would the lack of ASPI Layer 4.70 be the reason why the Nikon Scan software cannot "see" the scanner?

Thanks,

Joe
