you should change insurance companies if that really is the case. non-pro use like on vacations, etc, is done by almost everyone and should be covered without a rider. for coverage of just equipment (i.e. no special liability for assistants, etc), scheduled property on a home policy is enough for most people. i've been asking around myself because i am changing companies and i talked to a camera person who used to be an insurance agent. he basically said unless you need extra liability for assistants or for business property like an office, home insurance was all that was needed.

Nate was looking into attaching a rider to our apartment insurance to cover
our cameras, but he found out that with our existing policy, they aren't
covered if they aren't damaged outside the apartment. He did find one or two
places that would cover the gear outside our home. I was wondering if any of
you bother insuring your gear, and if so, which company you use.
