I've exchanged several emails with Don since I learned of his illness a few days ago. Sounds like he's got things under control and is ready to deal with this - as least as ready as anyone can be (and more than most could be). BTW: My live-in pathologist indicates that Stage III disease for Hodgkin's isn't *quite* as bad as it sounds. She specializes in bone & soft tissue tumors, not leukemias/lymphomas, but Hodgkin's at least isn't anything too exotic so she's pretty familiar with the basics. (We have a pathologist actually on the list but I believe he's a solid tumor guy too). Effective treatments are available and Don is a pretty robust individual; I for one expect him just to be slowed down temporarily by this :) Don Nelson is living proof that the term "Southern Gentleman" has not yet become an oxymoron: He's a class act through and through. He prefers to keep a low profile, but he himself has always been one of the best, if little-mentioned, reasons for attending the Grandfather Mountain weekend. -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
