Godfrey,
I think you're making a good choice. If I had a 16-45, I would pair that up with my 28-105 f/3.2-4.5, and be happy for 95% of my focal-length needs... although I'll never give up a few good fast primes either. ;)
As far as the good fast primes go, I'm still working on that. I've got the FA 50 f/1.4 and love it on an *ist-DS. But my FA 35mm f/2 is still backordered at B&H. I'm also currently hunting for an FA 135mm f/2.8, and an FA 20mm f/2.8. Those four primes will round out my quick and easy fast primes kit.
On my way toward building those two kits up, I'll probably enable some other lucky buyer with my F 17-28 f/3.5-4.5 Fisheye, my 18-55 f/3.5-5.6, and though I hate to think of parting with it, my FA 20-35 f/4 may go too. I just haven't quite brought myself around to be willing to part with any of those lenses yet. It's hard to let go. :)

I have the PZ 28-105 f4-5.6 and i love it. Nice and sharp, but won't poke an eye out.LOL
The one i have is also quite light and balances well on the PZ-1 and istD.
The newer f/3.2-4.5 model is smaller and lighter ... they had both so I got to see them side by side. Based on the responses from my earlier inquiry about this lens, I suspect the newer model is just a hair better performer. If it performs as well as the F35-70/3.5-4.5, it will be good enough! I have primes to go beyond that. ;-)
Just for some reason on the D at the 28 and 105 ends,it sometimes has a hissy fit when
trying to focus.Move it slightly off the ends and its fine.
No problems at all on the Pz-1.
I didn't have my DS with me but I'll certainly bring it along if I decide to pick up this lens today so I can check it out on my camera.
Godfrey
