The flange to sensor distance is much greater on the medium format cameras.

Hi
The thread about the MF based Pentax DSLR got me thinking, (always a dangerous proposition)
First, the question. If building a body for use with Pentax MF lenses, would the flange to sensor distance be the same as the flange to film distance in the film cameras?
If so, wouldn't it be possible to design a body marginally larger then the ist-D using either a FF 35mm sized sensor or Kodak's 40x40mm sensor with adapters for 67, 645 and 35mm lenses. Maybe even using a hypersonic motor in the adapters to provide autofocusing for the 645 and 35mm AF lenses.
HEY PENTAX. If you're reading this list and use this Idea, you owe me one of them for the idea :)

I can understand why mankind hasn't given up war. During a war you get to drive tanks through the sides of buildings and shoot foreigners - two things that are usually frowned on during peacetime.
