you're describing the memory buffer in the camera filling up. the camera allows you to take pictures faster than it can write to the card by having a memory buffer for about 6-8 images, depending on settings. take too many pictures in a burst and the camera stops until it has written one from the buffer and removed it so that there is more room in the buffer.

Hmmm. Possibly it has no relation to how full the card is. Possibly it
relates to what type of image I am saving. I really haven't been able to pinpoint
when exactly it happens. Could some images, containing more information (RAW),
take longer to save? And what type of image would that be? (More colors, more
details, more contrast?)
