must be a Canon thing then. there is nothing in the FAT32 file system that 
should have any noticeable delay as the drive fills up except when the drive 
gets fragmented.

I format all the time. Actually, Herb, I think it's the buffer. Which I am
not up on how it works. Not the card. It's the buffering of the image, 
somehow
the buffer gets filled up more as I go along. I certainly have noticed it,
anyway.
