Well! "The 50mm lens on the Super Duper New Digital is the equalent of a 200mm lens on a 35mm camera" makes perfect sense. "My 50mm lens becomes 200mm lens" is just BS pure and simple. The first statement says something is like something else. The second statement says something is something else. The whole thing seems to be a form of penis envy, "Mine is bigger than yours".

Kudos to Mr Alling who realized that, "All the kings men and all the kings horses can not put your broken egg back together again". As for the others, "Off with their heads".

Yes, and I could start writing in Greek, but would anyone care?

I have seen ads for digi cameras that state the equivalence of

their

lens spec to 35mm. Never seen one that does so for 6x7.

I suspect this has more to do with the photographic education level
of the users as anything else.

This kind of thinking is muddled, and will lead the photographer

thinks this way to running in circles of confusion

I do not think so, I have not seen this happen. I have seen

pedantry,

and questions. I have not seen confusion. Wasn't it you who was

saying

(apropos) the other day that the theory behind things photographic

is

not as important as taking pictures? What happened to that now?

This has nothing to do with theory.
