G'day folks,
Haven't got anything great with this yet, but it's not the lens's fault (-:
(actually I did make this but it's hardly serious (-: http://davidavid.whatsbeef.net/kookaburra.gif)

Thanks for the suggestion of using tubes. I've given it a go, using my non-auto set. It's definitely effective if a bit annoying to lose infinity focus and have to grapple with the lens and tubes. I'll definitely have them in my pocket when I go out with this lens. Yet another reason why I should have bit on the set of 100mm and 50mm tubes that came up a couple of weeks ago (-:

All very valid points about the superiority of the F* lens guys (-: It's the one I really wanted but there's the price... one day if I can I may try and do a swap.

I didn't even notice at first why this lens was 'bargain' and cheap.
It's got a miniscule nick in the very centre of the rear element. *shrug* - I haven't seen any effects of this, but I'll start a new thread on the subject at some stage.

Regards,
David

Get yourself a set of extension tubes. They will get you closer.

Yes indeed, as Bob has suggested. I've used the shortest tube of
the Pentax Extension Tube Set K on an A* 300/4, simply to get the
close focus point closer (for a shot of a squirrel sunning itself on
the back porch railing too close for the lens to focus on alone).

(This reminds me of another advantage of the F* 300/4.5 over the A*
300/4 - I think its close focus point is about half as close.)
