> The M* is a very nice lens. But kida hard to focus fast: This is quite true. Both the M* and the A* 300/4's (mechanically and optically the same) have a fairly long "throw" to the focus ring, and the motion is relatively stiff (except in well-used specimens, where it becomes a bit easier to turn).
> If you are shooting wild life, a AF version is better. And, in fact (or at least in my experience and for my tastes), the F* 300/4.5, in manual mode, is actually a quicker lens to focus manually. Not only is the focus motion less stiff, but (I think) the motion is quicker (i.e., it has a shorter "throw"). [I actually burned some film using this lens, focusing manually (on an LX), with and without the T6-2X TC, at a Red Sox game on Thursday, and I chose it - it's actually my wife's lens, used in AF mode with her ZX-5n - for the purpose in preference to my A* 300/4.] Fred
