I'm so sad to read about what happened to Dexter. I know what those late night emergencies are like.
Pets are not humans, but they share our lives and mirror back to us the basics and the fundamentals of what life is all about. They are a window through which we can see what is real, and what is crap. They ground us, and if we listen to them, make us better.
Dexter was a beautiful dog, and I'm sure he had a happy life with you and your family. When Pandora died, many people commented that photos help, and they were right. Look at your photos, remember the good times.

A little before 1 this morning, we had our beloved dog Dexter euthanized. He had begun internal bleeding, and was in a lot of pain, so we felt this was best for him. He went peacefully, after 13 wonderful years as part of our family.
