Actually the main wheel (that selects the exposure factor) is all you need
to move. The notches merely set the starting point on the resistor. But
moving the wheel back and forth (between 4X and 1/4X) may not do much if the
surface of the resistor is in bad condition. Mine obviously is not so bad
otherwise the camera wouldn't be any use at all. What I really need is a new
part -- the 'ASA speed dial assembly'. This is not serviceable -- according
to Pentax -- and has to be replaced in Toto. Exchanging it with a spare ASA
dial from an old camera would be a gamble as it is likely also to be
corroded. I have no idea if a new part (# 0-D11-01) is available from
Pentax.
