IMHO, they do, if it wasn't for the EOS1/F5 they wouldn't sell as many of the lower models. People buy the F100 and tell themselves that ok I couldn't afford the F5 or my back can't handle the weight but I did buy the second best camera available, its selling lots and lots of the lower models that gives you enough money to have a flagship. I also lots of pros still shooting with the F4 to this day despite owing a F5 BTW.
