Right on! Another comparable phenomenon was when the first transistor amps arrived.... Incidentally, you cannot nowadays find anyone who admit to be among those who claimed the first generation (or the three first generations) of CD players or transistor amps sounded better than what they "replaced". They were plentiful back when it happened....
