Have to agree with Justice here. I think it's outrageous what Adobe is charging for
the Document server.

If they REALLY wanted to make more $$ what they would do is make some sort of special
Adobe Acrobat software (not the document server extensions software of course). They
could charge more for it (say $600 or something) and let it have the same capabilities
as this document server software in that it can allow PDF's viewed in the Reader to
save data. Heck, that could be the ONLY thing really "fancy" in this special version
of Acrobat. I know several state agencies that would consider buying that software to
make PDF's that which save data. I don't know of any PA state agency that would even
consider purchasing the document server software with that kind of price tag. Maybe
they're just targeting federal government. They'll buy into anything.

Yes enough rant now, but I always have trouble seeing Adobe's logic in things. They
seem to be most concerned with $$, and they better live it up. Sooner or later,
Microsoft is going to make some sort of free Word Reader software that WILL allow data
to be saved on docs (they have something out now that allows a document to be viewed,
but that's all). Adobe will then see all sorts of profit loss in my opinion.

Anyway, till Adobe decides to change things, there's always a few other good solutions
for data saving, like this one available here:

http://www.savepdf.com

That's about the best low cost solution I've seen yet. It's a bit clunky, and it's
not for your "lower leveled" users, but it works.

That is the beauty of free enterprise, someone will hopefully see that need and
exploit it and kick Adobe's @$$, then they will have to lower the price, but then
again look how well this has worked in the oil/gas market and healthcare industries
here in the good ol' U.S. of A.(being sarcastic of course) Sorry, I will stop now, on
to issues that will actually help users on this group.

The real kicker is that the price doesn't go down until you're looking at over 100
licenses (your first 'Mil...) I'd sure like to know the justification of that price
(besides the usual "that's capitalism" rhetoric).

Bummer - I concur

Bummer. Too bad Adobe is so greedy. I don't see how small businesses or personal
users could do this if the per form license is $10,000+. Guess the cost of living in
San Jose is a little higher than it is here is Bakersfield?

This button is based on a quick hack exploiting a kind of "hole" in former versions of
PDF forms. The newer versions (PDF 1.5 / Acrobat 6.x) do not support this system any
more ( -> write the content of the fields into global JavaScript variables and the
Reader puts those variables automaticly but _temporarily_ into a .js file on a local
disk; manually copying this file before closing the current document or opening
another PDF "saves" the data. Re-populating the form is done by putting the glob.js
file back in the right directory before reopening the corresponding document). I heard
that Adobe has reduced the size of the variables so that this method has become
unusable with the newer versions.
