Deborah,

You *can* use Acrobat 5 to create fillable forms. Since you can no longer purchase Acrobat 5 (it was removed from distribution when Acrobat 6 started shipping) - the folks on the support line can only suggest the current shipping product.

With your current software - Acrobat  5- you can create fillable forms. Once you post these forms, anyone with the *free* Adobe Reader can fill & print & sign (which is what you described).

Additionally, there are other solutions available (from Adobe and others) that will allow:
    - fill & sign (electronically)
    - fill & sign & save a copy locally

This forum is a great place to get information on what is available.

And feel free to contact me directly.

Deborah;

As the Director of Sales for an acrobat competitor I assure you they

are just trying to get you to upgrade. Furthermore, they will not provide any

functionality that will allow your clients to electronically fill such a form in the browser

and save it.

My company and a few others allow this functionality so your client can save

the filled in form electronically. In some cases it even allows clients to sign the form

without printing it out.

Subject: [PDF-Forms] Confusing advice from Adobe

Apologies to all for this dumb question. I've tried the Adobe customer
service line, & searched the archives here, but would really like a
definitive answer, if someone has a moment to spare.

We're planning to build a user compliance form for online delivery. This
form will simply require users to:

1. read the policy in PDF format
2. fill in their name & the date at the bottom of the form
3. print out the form & add their signature for return to HR.

According to Adobe, I need to purchase Acrobat 6 Professional in order to
build a form. But our organisation already has a limited license for Acrobat
5, & this version seems capable of adding form fields to a PDF file (from
what I've seen over someone's shoulder).

Do I really need to make a new purchase? (And if not, why is Adobe telling
me I do ... ?)

Many thanks!

DB
