Good question. I've been using the following cleaners for a long time now
but this problem only recently started. I use Advanced WindowsCare2,
BeClean, Windows' Disk Cleanup, HDValet, MRU Blaster, Space Odyssey, (all
freebies) and on my own, periodically empty the Prefetch folder. Possibly I
checked or unchecked something that is removing that check mark next to QL.
Thing is, I'll never know what it was. If I wanted to be perfectly accurate
with whatever I do in configurations, I'd keep a record of every move I make
(a pain in the neck thing to do). I'm very careful with deletions, keeping a
"hold" folder on the desktop with a record of wherever I removing files
from, etc., but with checks and unchecks I've been careless lately. The muse
of computers might be angry with me for such flippant behavior.
Btw, for clarity we'll talk about the desktop icons all lining up on the
left side of the screen after rebooting,.in another posting with it's own
subject line. I only mentioned it here thinking on a long shot the two
matters might be related. --- Harold
From: Clint ... Are you running any kind of "cleaners" during shutdown?
They could be removing the (check mark next to) the QL toolbar. As for the
desktop icons, right click the desktop and "Arrange icons by", then
uncheck the alignment options. --- Clint
From Harold <snip> Bringing QL back is just a matter of right-clicking the
taskbar > Toolbars > and check Quick Launch. And when I do that after each
rebooting, the Launch returns with all my favorite icons on it (Show
Desktop, Internet Explorer, Search, eCleaner, Outlook Express, and
Firefox). --- Harold
From: Clint ... Harold do you mean the "Quick Launch Toolbar", the
toolbar at the bottom of the Desktop (that's part of the System tray and
clock)? What are you doing to "bring it back"? Disclosing that would
shed some light on how to fix it. - -Clint
Original Message From: "Harold B." ... When rebooting the PC (Compaq
with Windows XP), the launch bar disappears which then is easy to bring
back as it continues to have whatever shortcuts I have on it. What might
be causing its disappearance (and unchecking of the QL in the Toolbars
menu) upon rebooting, and how might I remedy it? --- Harold
