Ann, there is a firmware update for the HP dvd writer and a software update here: http://tinyurl.com/y4fxzq
When did you last update the drivers for it?

Have you had any hydro problems your area of late, something may have damaged the drives that way.

Disconnect the usb drive from your pc and unplug it from it's power supply, and shut down for 10 seconds then restart and see if the quotation marks appear still.

I have three Hewlett Packard drives:
l.Toshibe DVD-SD-M1502, which is my hard (C) drive.
2. Phillips CDD 4851 CD-R/RW,[email protected]> DVD .. which is a cd
burner

Both of these came on my HP Pavilion 7975 computer. I use Windows XP.

My cd burner went on the blink several months ago, and after taking it to a
computer place, paying $50, and being told that they didn't know how to fix
it, I bought a new CD Burner---HP DVD Writer 640V usb device.

I have used it a few times, but now I get the message that the driver may be
corrupted or missing (Code 39)

When I go to help and support, I am told that none of my drivers work. My C
drive will not work at all now. I can't play any cd's on my computer, not
even music cd's. When I go to the Control Panel I find a yellow quotation mark
by each of my drives.

Any suggestions, or must I call HP? Thanks in advance. Ann Parker
