So what happens to my 1000+ emails in the inbox?
They are history unless you rename the file to something like inbox.old and use the program Dbxtract to extract as many of them as you want to save.
DBXtract.exe extracts all mail and news messages from individual dbx files. After extracting the messages one can drag them from a Windows Explorer folder into an Outlook Express mail folder.

Offhand I'd say that anybody with 1000+ emails in their inbasket doesn't really need to save them as the person sure isn't worrying about answering or taking care of them. I know I never have more than 6 max, the ones that I'm currently waiting to answer. After that they are either filed or deleted.

Delete inbox.dbx and restart OE to create a new one.
