Might it be possible and/or worthwhile for you to share what is required to make Pan compile and run in, say, Leopard 10.5.8 and Snow Kitteh? As for what other newsreaders linux users are using, I have begun to wonder whether they even do, which is odd. There's Knode, but it's a featherweight compared to Pan, most especially when downloading headers from multimillion-header newsgroups. Pan is the best newsreader I've ever used period, counting even Newsbin Pro and NewsLeecher on WinOS, let alone Agent.
