The idea there wasn't the cache size change, but to split the downloading 
from the attachment decoding and saving, by downloading to cache first 
and separately, then going back thru and sort/saving when everything was 
already downloaded to cache.  Of course, that would require a large 
enough cache to deal with a whole session's download, rather bigger than 
the default 10 MB, thus changing the cache size would be part of it, but 
that alone wouldn't be expected to change the download speed, unless you 
changed your behavior as suggested, as well.
