FWIW, I'm running on a 100% gcc 4.3.0 compiled system, now, including pan 
and gtk+, of course.  I've had no problems with pan other than the ones 
the gcc 4.3 and glib 2.16 patches fixed, but as I mentioned earlier, I've 
run no binaries for quite some time now, so might not have detected a 
performance issue only showing up there.

Of course, that brings up something else to check, glib versions.
