Would it conflict greatly with your other idea to add

    [ ] Get new bodies when downloading headers

This would apply to both the automatic header-downloading (as specified in the Behavior pane of the prefs) and the manual downloading (using the Groups menu). See also Bug 350373 (http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi? id=350373) and my comment.

Just a thought (I would certainly use it, but I read text groups almost exclusively).
