I am still seeing this issue, let me attempt to list the possible suspects:
I'm using 3 servers
news.ntlworld.com (server 1)
biggulp.readfreenews.net (server 2)
freenews.netfront.net (server 4 - yes I deleted server 3 a bit back)
when I click on a.b.p.wallpaper I see articles being downloaded in the
progress bar but the task stays active (looking at the task manager it
claims to be '100% done;Queued') but it - usually doesn't disappear.
If I then select 'only unread articles' and then unselect it I get to see
the new articles - but they're marked as read - maybe this (i.e. them not
appearing) is just because the task isn't finished - maybe one of the
newsservers isn't responding...
but there's nothing saying it isn't responding in the event log:

.. I let it then continue for another 30 minutes and nothing more in the log
and the task is still in the queue.
there's also the .ynm and .dsc files missing...
