If you are not planning an "inplace upgrade" (i.e. replace slapd on the same 
server), I'd suggest to do a test migration on a test machine.
If you intend an inplace upgrade, I'd suggest to clone the current server to a 
test machine before trying.
Once challenge can be if the new version has different modules linked 
statically than the older one has.
