I will adjust my attitude and expectation.

BTW, I don't agree with you about Linux is junk.

I did love the referral to Linux as an "obvious cesspool". :-)

FreeBSD (as well as the other BSDs) and Illumos have the advantage that their foundation is a complete bootable operating system, most of which has been well integrated for many tens of years (even before Linux was born). This is not true for Linux, which is an operating system kernel. Only by adding a lot of other software (or something like an integration with Busybox) does one get a system which boots and allows a user to log in. There is a substantial disagreement regarding about the "other software" to use to turn Linux into an operating system.

The world of the Linux kernel is organized chaos. There are many code submissions but just a few people are calling the shots. There are a rather similar number of decision-makers at the top of the Linux kernel feeding chain as there are for FreeBSD and Illumos but contributors to Linux are far less powerful (except unless they are a huge company like Samsung rather than an actual person).

Linux rocks and superior to any alternatives.

It is really necessary to look at each use case to see where "Linux rocks" or some other solution is better.
