Michael, The lite desktop environments like XFCE and LXDE are available through http://dlc.sun.com/osol and some in IPS.
Officially, "The OpenSolaris Desktop is a secure and comprehensive enterprise desktop software solution for Solaris that combines the best of open source innovation from various communities such as GNOME, and Firefox."
