Michael,

The lite desktop environments like XFCE and LXDE are available through
http://dlc.sun.com/osol and some in IPS.

Officially, "The OpenSolaris Desktop is a secure and comprehensive enterprise
desktop software solution for Solaris that combines the best of open source
innovation from various communities such as GNOME, and Firefox."

KDE 4.5.1 is available through the KDE4Solaris project IPS if you want an
alternative "heavyweight" solution as well.
