Hi P Touchman, I will say that this sounds like vesafb and viafb conflicting with OpenChrome DDX since Debian 9 uses Linux 4.9 kernel. This has been an issue since Linux 4.5 kernel. I created a post about this issue since it is a FAQ.

Currently, no support for VX900 HDMI inside OpenChrome DDX and the effort to support it has stalled for now.
