There are a limited number of scenarios where the we'd get REMOTE SHUTDOWN on 
the screen. Just to make sure I'm covering all my bases:
Neither of you are using a network card, RS232 serial connection, or EPO 
connection to the UPS, correct?

Assuming no, that narrows down things for me to focus on.

As an aside: if anyone else on the mailing list either uses these models (Tripp 
Lite 4004 USB protocol with LCD screens) and sees the problem or does NOT. 
would be an interesting data point.
