If you can, you should set it to scan all attachments. We do this at our
mail gateway (we use mimesweeper www.mimesweeper.com
<http://www.mimesweeper.com> )
NAV is "historically" slow with releases of virus sig updates. Trend, sybari
and nai have been quicker by a few days.
These days response from vendors needs to be measured in hours.

Can also pay to have another AV vendor on your exchaneg box vs desktop to
cover bases , ie one being slower to release updates than the other.

IIRC if you are using NAV, set your active update to check hourly rather
than the default 30 days.......

OK original problem solved. Have put registry keys to change IE settings on
a shared drive.
As for attachments, am I understanding correctly that the major flaw with
using NAV is that it scans but won't block attachments with specified
extensions?

I think one of the list's main concerns is that you let bat files and
possibly other executable files through via email. We have two different
programs that scan and remove attachments just in case.

Excuse my ignorance, I have not been in the industry long and I thought we
were covered using NAV for exchange & NAV Corporate 7.0 ... please explain
to me the difference.
I ment there was no urgency about my original question.

There should be an urgency! This isn't 1985, it's 2001, and the world is
different. The risks of letting ANYTHING get to the desktop that a user can
run or execute and destroy not only your network, but cause complications on
others is a responsibility YOU have. Don't let users have dangerous access
to anything that comes over the internet. Scrub your files at the gateway!

Antigen works for me and many others on this list.

and email that to them to click on, I sense urgency here ??!!

You let batch files go through you e-mail system? Why then are you worried
about having them log off, you're already courting disaster.

I dont really want to have to get the users to log out. I would prefer to
send them batch file via e-mail they can just double click on.

policies would be better than a script, just requires the user to logon
again once the change has replicated

Hi All,

Does anyone know if/how you can change the LAN settings in IE 5 and
above on win 98 SE via a script?
As we have 2 links to the internet and would like to change the settings in
one go.

Regards Caine
