Hi, Some of you may remember Nick Levay, aka Rattle. He was an early Nashville 2600 member and one of the original PhreakNIC founders, as well as a member of NLUG back in the 1990s. He passed away yesterday. From a Facebook posting by Tom Cross (aka Decius):
"It is with great disappointment that I must announce the passing of my old friend Nick Levay. I want to be frank about what happened. Nick had a problem with alcohol. He checked into rehab a few weeks ago, but unfortunately he had done extensive damage to his organs and they were unable to save him. Do not underestimate the danger that alcoholism can pose. If you didn't know Nick, he was a punk rocker from the Jersey shore who was often ahead of his time. He ran a BBS, and founded an ISP and several Internet communities. He cofounded Memestreams with me - a social networking site that we created before most people knew what one was. He devoted years of his life to protecting NGO's from cyberespionage, including the Center for American Progress and the Council on Foreign Relations. One of his lasting legacies is the NGO-ISAC, an institution that helps NGOs across the political spectrum share information about cybersecurity threats. He was also the father of two beautiful sons, 6 and 8. I find the world to be profoundly less interesting without you in it, my friend."
