It's kind of funny, because back when we started running the Installfests, before the turn of the century, these tools were already deprecated at that point, and the ip command was already available. When we configured the T1 tunnel at VCCH, I had to use the 'ip' command to set up the routes, because you couldn't set the source address with the 'route' command.
20 years is a good long time for a tool to continue to be maintained beyond its official deprecation.
