IBM PC type servers boot using Linux as the boot/configure system before Windows loads. It does microcode updates and configures raid controllers, NICs, etc. Many of the windows guys thought it was part of the 'IBM Windows Bios'.
Windows was the company requirement for a 'server' to run, and they were deathly afraid of anything that smells like Unix. The didn't even know one 'appliance' they purchased ran QNX. Even then Linux was more stable.
