BTW, please run tcpdump with -n next time so that it doesn't lose packets due to name lookups. It would appear that the real problem here is that you've lost connectivity to the box tsunami. Could you please repeat the test with two tcpdumps, one on buttercup and one on tsunami (run both with -n, you can skip strace now)? When it stalls, could you please also do a ping from buttercup to tsunami? Please also tell me what network drivers you're using on both sides.
