Erv, Thanks for the clarification. I had missed the files in bin. In the
attached email I had interpreted what Ian said to mean that they are not
there.

David Reed indicates that NAntcontrib should be obsoleted and merged into
NAnt. I agree. While at one point it may have allowed NAnt core developers
to focus on core issues, it seems that bringing NAnt to a level that can be
called 1.0 has include many of the NAntcontrib tasks and pruning what
doesn't make since.

Finally, I saw a short discussion on Installers get started but it seemed to
get derailed on the question of multi-platform. I think it is important to
recognize the purpose of an installer for something like NAnt.

I'll propose the objective of an Installer: To hand hold the deployment for
novice users. What is involved in deploying NAnt? Not mutch... 1) where to
put it 2) manage the PATH 3) filter the content (source) 4) create shortcuts
to help and uninstalling.

So... who needs this? Windows developers... and specifically ones using
Visual Studio who rarely use a command line. Do the open source junkies who
thrive on a command line, on any platform, need an installer to do those
things? No! Would having an installer that did these things further the
adoption of NAnt to the extent that it is worth creating and maintaining?
Probably, unless the 'multiplatform' requirement makes it too expensive...
especially in light of the targeted users.

Thanks, Cash

All of the NantContrib tasks are included as binaries in the Nant 0.8.3
release (look in the .\nant-0.8.3.50105\bin\ subdirectory of the release
.zip file).

Get it here:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/nant/nant-0.8.3.zip?download

If you want to build it from scratch or if you want to follow the latest
CVS versions, you'll have more work to do yourself.

Sorry if it is annoying to pursue this NAntcontrib thing here. I know
this is the NAnt group. But the NAntcontrib mail list looks useless.

However, there is a relationship between the two even if it should be
one way (NAntcontrib to NAnt). This relationship is made very clear in
this thread of messages. In order to round off NAnt for "Corporate"
use, certain functionality is needed but not seen as 'necessary' for
NAnt core. SQL, VSS and have been mentioned in this thread and the
response is "it's in NAntcontrib". So, the functionality of NAntcontrib
is recognized for the "corporate" success of NAnt.

However, it seems that NAntcontrib is not very assessable. (I may be
wrong.
Someone please prove me wrong!) I can't seem to download a ZIP file
and
just use it the way I can NAnt. While, if I have to, I suppose I can
decide to make the leap to become CVS junkie and figure out exactly what
I need to do to download, this seems unnecessary AND contrary to the
accessibility objectives for the Corporate Target. I feel like I'm
having to jump through hoops to use the thing. (And from the emails I
see, I know it's not just
me.)

Maybe the objective of getting "Corporate" buyin is more of an atherial
experience than a real objective. But if NAnt is to become a real tool
with real buyin in the .Net development community then this bridge has
to built.

Either the necessary components from NAntcontrib should be brought into
NAnt where it can be properly packaged or the NAntcontrib needs to be
made more assesible.

Thanks, Cash

Sorry no. Binaries for NAntcontrib ship as part of the 0.83 release
however.
