Folks,

I just pushed a change that will cause us to checkerboard differently, and
Anthony and I want to collect feedback from folks here to determine if we
should end up shipping it or not. Instead of showing the low-res version of
the page when we checkerboard (like when you pan quickly), we will now just
show the page background (hopefully). When the content is finished
rendering, it will then fade into place. The idea here is that instead of
appearing instantly, the fade-in will help smooth out the otherwise jarring
transition. The low-res tiles have always been a constant source of bugs,
and the GFX people don't like maintaining it, so they are in favor of this.
Panning performance with the fading tiles also seems a bit better to me,
but I want to hear what you guys think. The change should be in tomorrow's
Nightly.

Thanks,
James
