Hey Mark! As always, thanks for the feedback! We definitely appreciate the insight.
I think moving Reading List items into Bookmarks is a great first step. Especially when we look at our goal of providing a more cohesive saving, sharing, and revisiting user experience to all users. A lot of this involved cleaning up and establishing a strong UX foundation for which to build upon in the future. Unifying the Reading List into Bookmarks did mean "co-mingling" them with other Bookmarks but we felt strongly about simplifying the user's experience to be more about "saving" rather than forcing them to make an extra decision of "saving as Bookmark" vs "saving in the Reading List" (and then in Reader View or not). Since it's just about one "saving" intent, there should also only be one place to "revisit" them. One of the reasons we looked at Smart folders is to help address your concern of "co-mingled" items. Look for more of these in the future as ways to filter and sort through content in groups that are related. We think that this not only helps users find things faster, but will also help create a more useful and interesting hierarchy in our product where we are just seeing a long list of links today. Again, a large part of the focus here is not to only make Reading List and Bookmarks better, but to also set ourselves up in an extensible way for the future. I think the issue of diving back into a commonly accessed folder is an interesting one as well. As we look at surfacing more useful and actionable information to our users, these Smart folders presents an intriguing starting point. Particularly because it gives us the ability to show groups of data that we've not been able to do before. If these are indeed points/groups of interest to the user, we have a lot of opportunity to surface them more in our UI and to make them more readily available. I wrote more about it <https://medium.com/firefox-ux/this-is-our-reading-list-c81c4238dd3d#.3nnlnna4e> here [1] <https://medium.com/firefox-ux/this-is-our-reading-list-c81c4238dd3d#.3nnlnna4e> if you'd like to read more about the design decisions we made.
