Linspire 4.5 (soon 5.0). Aimed exactly for that type of audience. I guess optionally Mandrake 10.1 but don't take my word on that since I only read a couple of reviews.
Grab a Linspire LiveCD. You wouldn't even need to install it but just for demo purposes. If he likes it buy a copy. I think its around $45.
