Should we do some sign up form on the website for the coming meeting? That way we would have an idea of how many people will be attending, etc...
In my humble opinion, membership to MLUG and the MLUG list should not be considered the same thing. True, for voting the current system causes no problems, as a person has to be present in the AGM/EGM to vote. However, I think many people either change email address and don't bother to remove the old one, or just register to ask one question and then un-register, etc... I think a separate membership would enable us to know who really is a member in the LUG and, if in future we would need some sort of login system for certain sections of a website, it would be easier knowing exactly who's who. Of course, this is just an opinion which we could discuss in the meeting. P.S: Philip, sorry about that "eh?" earlier - my sister checked her emails from my PC and thought it was addressed to her. About the IRC channel, we were going to do this on the IrcMalta network, which would give us much control over the channel. AiR (forgot his name right now :S:S) could help a lot with this as he is an admin(?) on the network. Again, we will discuss in the meeting. --------------------------------------------- Keith Vassallo http://www.keithvassallo.com Linux Registered User #290991 ________________________________________ From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ramon Casha Sent: 20 November 2003 05:54 To: Malta Linux User Group - general list Subject: Re: [LINUX.ORG.MT] Proposed statute, proposed date, and other matters On Erb, 2003-11-19 at 19:20, Philip Serracino Inglott wrote: Two points about the statute: 1. you need to specify the size of the quorum for AGMs and EGM and what happens is this quorum is not met. Agreed. 2. you need to specify how members are nominated for election. In the proposed statute I said that any member who's been there for at least 1 month can stand for election (no mention of a nomination). I think that a nomination and seconding is overly formal and unnecessary. After all it's the members who will decide with their vote who gets elected. If a candidate can get enough votes to get elected they'd probably be able to find someone to nominate them anyway. At most maybe we should specify that prospective candidates should inform the list of their intentions a number of days before the AGM/EGM, but in that case we should also allow for people to volunteer on the spot if there aren't enough candidates. Also, there could be a problem with membership in the mailing list being equivalent to membership in the MLUG if some one registers with more than one e-mail. Well, since voting requires a person to be physically present I don't think that will cause too many problems. You can register with 10 emails, but ultimately there will only be one of you present to cast a vote. I myself registered both my home address and my work address in the list purely as a matter of convenience. The only concern is if this list is used to calculate a quorum. We could discuss this in the meeting. -- Ramon Casha <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
