Or even may be pcBSD. Looks like I may be wrong be he is more looking at possibly a desktop type and pcBSD is FreeBSD with a desktop manager on top much like Windows if you like, or try to be anyway. Not a bad job really if that's what you are looking for.
As far as taking Microsoft on, they can both go at it. OpenBSD takes on a better target and more challenging and interesting one, Cisco and the Internet at large! (;>
