Hi misc@ I am a new owner of a Microsoft IntelliMouse Optical 1.1A. I bought it new in box, cos I'm always wary of buying old parts that have been used and likely have a bit of wear on them.
This mouse has worked wonderfully, for about 2-ish months, though I had to make the tracking speed a bit higher with "wsconsctl mouse.scaling=2.5", as it was really slow by default. Well, my mouse has been randomly disconnecting from my computer, both in usb AND ps/2 mode (with passive adapter) with a "device problem, disabling port" in kernel messages. Usually un-plugging and re-plugging in the usb works to fix this. I can't do the same on ps/2 unfortunately, cos no hotplugging. Since this mouse is virtually new, it would be strange for it to be hardware failure, but I'm not going to block that out on the list of possibilities as this is a quite old model mouse as it is. Is this a known quirk with these usb ps/2 combined connectors? The mouse doesn't have these sorts of issues on my other computers that don't run OpenBSD. Those machines run some flavor of Desktop Linux. My OpenBSD box runs the latest -current snapshot and I can't easily test on -stable, so I'm unsure if a snapshot introduced this weird behavior. My -current box is an Optiplex 7010 MT, with an i7-3770, 16gb of HyperX ddr3 ram, and a Radeon PRO WX 3100 installed. Otherwise, the machine uses stock firmware and nothing else is changed. I'd really love to continue using this mouse, as it was quite expensive to buy new in box. My hands are pretty big so I need a larger mouse. I don't really wanna shell out more money for a replacement, either. Any pointers would be appreciated.
